1955 Ford Part 29: Cutting, Buffing, & More

Updated: Dec 27, 2019

I took advantage of some warmer weather this past week and did some "cutting and buffing" to the clear coat finish.

The results are excellent from just a few feet away or more...

But when you get close to the surface anyone could tell that there are some light scratches left over from the 1000, 2000, and 3000 cutting job I did on the finish. I am having a hard time figuring out whether or not I need more passes with the higher grades of sandpaper or if I need to turn up my buffer speed a notch or two. I am using Meguiar's 105 Cutting Polish. Maybe I need to go with a 2500 and then a 3000 to be really good, not sure on that one. I will have to experiment next summer. For now, it is acceptable enough to move ahead and fix the small details later.
